Champagne Travel on a Lemonade Budget!

We all look forward to our holidays! We work hard all year to spend a week or two in the sun, and we want it to go as smoothly as possible. So why not upgrade your holiday experience with these VIP suggestions!

1. Meet & Greet Car parking

Instead of driving to a car park and having to get a transfer bus back to the airport, why not pay that little extra for Meet & Greet car parking? For those of you who are new to this concept, a car parking representative will be waiting for you at the airport, simply drive to the terminal, take your suitcases and head off to check in. The car park rep will then drive your car to a secure car park where your car will stay whilst you’re away. The company will then drive your car back to the terminal for you to collect on your way home – completely hassle free!

Get up to 20% off your parking when you book through our preferred website: Holiday Extras, they only deal with approved, reputable car parks that you can trust!

2. Airport Lounges

Booking into an airport lounge will change the way you travel forever! Once you have passed through security, you are free to head straight to your chosen lounge, where you will find a comfortable seating area in a calm, relaxing environment. The majority of lounges will provide you with a meal and snacks throughout your stay, as well as an open bar serving a range of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. Most lounges will also offer complimentary newspapers and magazines as well as free Wi-Fi, plenty for you to do whilst waiting for your flight.

We recommend booking your airport lounges through Lounge Pass – prices start from just £13.50!

3. Taxi Transfers

A taxi transfer will get you on your way as soon as you are ready unlike a coach transfer where you will be sat waiting in the car park for everybody else to arrive in on different flights. The whole experience will be more comfortable, in an air conditioned car which is certain to be more relaxing than being stuck on a hot and often dated coach.

A taxi will cost slightly more than taking the coach transfer, however, it will get you to your hotel much quicker and will allow you to check in at your hotel before everyone else arrives in their coach loads.

We recommend pre-booking a private transfer through HolidayTaxis.com or alternatively taking a cab from the airport.

4. Upgrade to Premium Economy

On certain long-haul flights you can pay a supplement to upgrade to premium economy. When travelling on charter flights with Thomson or Thomas Cook, the supplements are often fairly reasonable. Upgrading will normally give you more legroom, a better food/drink menu on board and many other benefits, in a separate cabin!

5. Extra Legroom Seats

If premium economy isn’t an option, why not look at the extra legroom seats. These are often reasonably priced and will make your flight much more comfortable! Some airlines sell these at time of booking, make sure you book these early to avoid missing out!

6. Tip hotel staff

If you look after the staff, they will look after you. A tip at the start of your holiday will usually ensure that there’s always a table waiting for you in the restaurant, that you’ll be served first at the bar and there will always be a sun bed waiting for you by the pool!

7. Dine in à la carte restaurants

Most 4 or 5 star all inclusive hotels will offer you a complimentary visit to their à la carte restaurant(s) during your stay. Make sure you take advantage of this by reserving your place at the start of your holiday as they often get booked up very quickly! This will give you a break from the buffet restaurant and is the perfect excuse to dress up and make a night of it!

8. Email the hotel

You can find the email address for most hotels online without much trouble. A quick email to the hotel a couple of weeks before you’re due to stay can work wonders! This particularly applies if you are returning to the same hotel, mention that you’ve stayed before and ask if there is any chance of an upgrade or that you’d like the same room number.

If it’s a special occasion such as a birthday, anniversary or honeymoon, mention this to the hotel and most will do something special for you such as a bottle of bubbly in the room or something special to make your trip extra memorable.

This is a great time to mention any special requests, for example a double bed, a high floor, a cot, a dietary/medical request etc. We suggest emailing the hotel 2 weeks before travel with any requests you may have – give them your name, booking reference and travel dates to help them locate your booking.

9. Travel out of season to 5 star resorts!

There are some fantastic deals to be had on 5 star hotels if you travel slightly out of season. If you’re not too bothered about it being hot, you can get a bargain on a 5 star hotel in the Med if you travel before or after the main holiday season. Try April, May, September and October for some good deals!

10. Holiday closer to home

If you want a luxurious, exotic holiday but you’re on a budget, focus on destinations closer to home. You could get yourself a 5 star luxury hotel in the Med with the best room type for the price of a basic hotel somewhere further afield such as the Caribbean! If you go at the right time of the year, the weather will be just as good!
