As of 13th January 2018 it will be illegal for a UK business to add a surcharge to a customer’s credit or debit card payment.
This is great news for holiday customers as many companies charge a 2% fee when paying by credit card. If you’re paying for a £2,000 holiday with a credit card you could now save £40 on credit card fees!
Holiday firms such as Thomas Cook and TUI have already scrapped the fees, allowing you to pay for your holiday without incurring any additional card fees!
This new rule has come from the EU Payment Services Directive which sets out the changes EU governments must make by the 13th January 2018. This new rule will remain in place after Brexit!
